Kyle Walker confronted Pep Guardiola in a furious dressing room argument following Manchester City’s 2-0 defeat at Anfield in December 2024, weeks before the defender left the club on loan. The exchange, captured in a new Amazon documentary titled A Beautiful Obsession, shows Walker accusing his manager of repeatedly targeting him in team meetings during City’s catastrophic 2024/25 season.

“If you keep saying my name in every meeting and every f** thing you make it impossible. You’re going to get a reaction. Every f**** meeting it’s my name,” Walker tells Guardiola in the footage. The row escalated when Guardiola suggested Walker did not understand his point, prompting the England defender to lose his temper entirely.

Walker also claimed that Guardiola never genuinely wanted him to be Manchester City captain — a role he had held when the club won the Premier League title in 2024. The confrontation at Anfield came during a wretched run of form that exposed deep fractures within a squad that had won four consecutive league titles.

The documentary follows City’s season unravelling in real time, with several tense exchanges between Guardiola and his players captured in dressing rooms during and after matches. Walker’s row is described as the most startling of those clashes.

Walker departed City on loan in January 2025 and subsequently left permanently for Burnley the following summer. His exit prompted Guardiola to break with nine years of tradition at the club by personally selecting the captain for his tenth and final season in charge. Bernardo Silva was handed the armband and led City to FA Cup and Carabao Cup glory before departing for Real Madrid on a free transfer this summer.

A Beautiful Obsession launches on 19 August 2026.
