Vitinha and Ruiz seal PSG's late comeback as Barcelona's defensive errors prove costly
Paris Saint-Germain moved to the top of the Champions League table on goal difference with a 4-2 win over Barcelona at Parc des Princes on Wednesday, with Vitinha and Fabián Ruiz scoring in the final ten minutes to overturn Lamine Yamal's equaliser.
Paris Saint-Germain secured a dramatic 4-2 victory over Barcelona at Parc des Princes on Wednesday, with Vitinha and Fabián Ruiz striking late to keep Luis Enrique’s side top of the Champions League league phase on goal difference. The win gave PSG three wins from three games in the competition, following last week’s victory over Manchester City.
The match turned on a frantic final ten minutes. Lamine Yamal had drawn Barcelona level with a brilliant solo goal, gliding past Warren Zaïre-Emery before finishing with precision, only for Vitinha to restore PSG’s lead from just outside the area in the 81st minute. Ruiz then put the result beyond doubt shortly before the final whistle.
For much of the contest, Barcelona goalkeeper Joan Garcia was the reason the scoreline remained competitive. He made two saves inside the opening five minutes and produced a string of fine stops throughout, including a superb denial of Ferran Torres after the forward was played in by João Neves.
PSG’s injury concerns mounted early. Ousmane Dembélé limped off as a 20th-minute replacement, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia also departed with a physical issue. Despite the disruption, it was Désiré Doué who broke the deadlock just before half-time, capitalising on a Barcelona error to tuck a composed finish into the bottom-left corner.
Barcelona had trailed at the interval for the first time this season, yet levelled in the 56th minute through Fermín López’s slick finish after a one-two with Ander Herrera’s replacement Espart released him down the right. PSG retook the lead through Lucas Hernández, who powered home a header from a corner in the 74th minute, before Yamal’s equaliser briefly threatened another twist.
Barcelona’s defensive frailty ultimately proved decisive. Repeated errors at the back gifted PSG the openings they needed, and Enrique’s side showed the composure to punish them when it mattered most.
