United weigh January recall for goalkeeper Honor as 15-year-old prospect Dore attends City match
Manchester United are considering a January loan recall for goalkeeper Solomon Honor after Southport sidelined him following a managerial change. Separately, highly-rated 15-year-old winger Jaice Dore was spotted at the Etihad for City's clash with PSG.
Manchester United are weighing an official January recall for goalkeeper Solomon Honor, who has been training at Carrington full-time after losing his place at National League side Southport, while academy prospect Jaice Dore raised eyebrows by attending Manchester City’s game against Paris Saint-Germain at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday.
Honor, a 6ft 6in stopper signed from Blackburn Rovers in the winter window, was sent on a season-long loan to Southport over the summer to gain regular men’s football experience. That plan unravelled in September when a change of manager at the club led to Everton loanee Douglass Lukjanciks being brought in, pushing Honor to the bench.
United have kept Honor’s registration active rather than cancelling it outright, since doing so now would still leave him unable to join a new club before January. In the meantime, he has been integrated back into the goalkeeping unit at Carrington. The club are monitoring the situation at Southport, which could yet change, but a formal recall in the winter window is under consideration.
The Dore sighting prompted a different kind of conversation among United academy followers. The 15-year-old winger has been one of the most talked-about youngsters in the club’s system since joining in 2020 from Fletcher Moss Rangers — the local grassroots club that also produced Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard. Dore has already been fast-tracked into higher age groups and recently starred for the Under-16s.
Seeing a United prospect at the Etihad naturally drew attention, but the visit is understood to have been arranged by sportswear company Nike, with whom Dore has a commercial relationship, rather than reflecting any interest from City.
