Unbeaten Wint calls out Sharaf after UFC 332 TKO, eyes Madison Square Garden showdown
Anthony Wint improved to 9-0 with a 23-second TKO of Lucas Armand at UFC 332 in Salt Lake City, then immediately called out Sean Sharaf — the man who knocked out Gable Steveson in 12 seconds — targeting UFC 334 at Madison Square Garden.
Anthony Wint remained unbeaten at 9-0 after stopping Lucas Armand by TKO in just 23 seconds at UFC 332 on October 3 in Salt Lake City, then used his post-fight platform to call out Sean Sharaf, the fighter who shocked the MMA world with a 12-second knockout of Gable Steveson at UFC 331.
Wint made the callout during his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan, naming UFC 334 in New York City as his preferred venue for the matchup. Speaking at the post-fight press conference, the former New York Jets linebacker — who competes under the nickname “Bow Down” — acknowledged that the November card at Madison Square Garden may already be fully booked, but made clear he wants the fight to happen in the Big Apple regardless.
“I want to fight in New York and obviously, this is short notice, it’s hard to get that call, especially for the biggest card of all year,” Wint said.
Despite the public callout, Wint was quick to frame the potential bout as a sporting opportunity rather than a personal rivalry. He revealed that Sharaf had previously given him a lift from the UFC Performance Institute to his hotel, and the two had shared a genuine conversation about their respective journeys in the sport.
“There’s no beef between me and Sean, so I hope people don’t build it up as that,” Wint said. “He actually gave me a ride from the P.I. to my hotel when I was over there, so we had a good conversation just about his journey.”
Sharaf’s profile has surged since his stunning upset of Steveson, and Wint sees that momentum as precisely what makes the matchup commercially compelling. With Sharaf now carrying a growing fan base, Wint believes the fight sells itself.
“He has a big fan base now; they’re going to be like, ‘No, Sean, go out there and knock this dude out again,’ and I think that makes for a great fight,” Wint said. “At the end of the day, we’re in the business of sport, but we’re in the business of show. It’s a market at the end of the day and I think that’s a huge fight to make.”
Wint, who transitioned to MMA after his NFL career with the Jets, is building a compelling case for a high-profile matchup in only his second UFC appearance. Sharaf, now 5-2, has yet to respond publicly to the callout.
