Two professional footballers from AS Nancy-Lorraine were remanded in custody on Friday, October 2 after being charged with group rape, confirmed Nancy prosecutor François Capin-Dulhoste. Their identities have not been made public.
The two footballers were arrested on Wednesday, September 30 and held in police custody by investigators from the interdepartmental police directorate of Meurthe-et-Moselle (DIPN 54). After 48 hours in custody, they were brought before an investigating judge at Nancy’s judicial court. The judge for freedoms and detention ordered their provisional incarceration in line with the prosecution’s recommendations. The magistrate provided no details on the exact nature or circumstances of the alleged facts, preserving the confidentiality of the ongoing investigation.
The international break is currently masking the absences within Nancy’s professional squad. The resumption of the championship next weekend should nevertheless reveal the identities of the missing players on the team sheet. Currently sixth in Ligue 2 under the direction of Oswald Tanchot — who arrived on the Lorraine bench in May 2026 to succeed Pablo Correa — the club has so far issued no official statement regarding this criminal procedure.
This case recalls a painful precedent for the club. In 2019, former Nancy goalkeeper Baptiste Valette was implicated in similar allegations following an incident outside a nightclub. Acquitted at first instance in December 2025, he faces a second trial after an appeal filed by the general prosecutor’s office.
