Two assists and a stadium chant: Sangaré dazzles Brentford on debut against Tottenham
Signed from Lens this summer, Malian midfielder Mamadou Sangaré delivered two assists in Brentford's 3-0 victory over Tottenham, winning over supporters so completely that they have already composed a chant inspired by Whitney Houston.
Mamadou Sangaré could not have hoped for a better Premier League debut. The Malian midfielder, recruited this summer from Lens, delivered a top-level performance in his first start for Brentford, who thrashed Tottenham 3-0 on Saturday at Gtech Community Stadium.
Author of two assists, Sangaré notably set up Keane Lewis-Potter’s opening goal in the twelfth minute, immediately setting the tone for a match controlled from start to finish by the Bees.
The performance did not escape the stands. A supporter filmed the pitch from the stands as I Wanna Dance with Somebody by Whitney Houston played, before adapting the lyrics into a spontaneous tribute: “I wanna dance with Sangaré”. The video, posted on X, quickly circulated among the London club’s fan community.
This type of immediate popular adoption is rare for a player making his debut. If Sangaré confirms this level of play in the coming weeks, this adaptation could well become a permanent fixture in the Gtech Community Stadium’s vocal repertoire.
