Tuchel names England squad with Mainoo recalled and Foden decision confirmed
Thomas Tuchel has announced his England squad for Nations League fixtures against Spain and Croatia, with Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo returning after injury and a decision made on Phil Foden.
Thomas Tuchel has named his England squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures against Spain and Croatia, with Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo earning a recall after recovering from injury.
Mainoo, 21, had been absent from the previous two squads in September and October but returned to club action last week, boosting his chances of a call-up. An injury to Alex Scott further opened the door for the midfielder, who faces competition from Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly and former United man James Garner for a place in the group.
Phil Foden’s inclusion was also among the headline decisions in Tuchel’s announcement, with the Manchester City forward’s form and fitness closely monitored ahead of the double-header.
Marcus Rashford remains absent from contention. The United forward has not featured for his club since missing the September and October international windows with a hip problem, and he was not considered for this squad. Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw are also not involved — neither has represented England for some time, and Shaw continues to be sidelined through injury.
England face Spain and Croatia in their Nations League fixtures, with Tuchel looking to build on the groundwork laid since taking charge of the national side.
