Tottenham sign Savinho from Man City for £85m to push summer spend past £300m

Tottenham have completed the signing of Brazilian winger Savinho from Manchester City for an initial £75m, with £5m in guaranteed add-ons and a further £5m in conditional bonuses, taking their total summer expenditure past £300m.

The 20-year-old becomes Manchester City’s record sale, eclipsing the £82m Atletico Madrid paid for Julian Alvarez two summers ago, and joins Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes as one of the three most expensive players in Tottenham’s history. City, who originally signed Savinho from sister club Troyes for £30.8m in 2024, have already agreed a €37.5m deal with Palmeiras for Brazilian winger Allan as a replacement.

Savinho made 84 appearances for City, scoring seven goals, but managed only two Premier League strikes and was limited to seven top-flight starts last season. Spurs had first registered their interest in the winger a year ago and sporting director Johan Lange confirmed the club’s long-standing pursuit.

“Savio is someone who has been on our radar for a while and I’m delighted that he is now a Tottenham Hotspur player,” Lange said. “He has already shown his quality at the highest level, and we believe his ability, style and mentality will be a great fit for the squad we are building here.”

Savinho himself expressed enthusiasm about working under head coach Roberto De Zerbi. “It’s taken a while but I’m very happy to be here,” he said. “It’s a wonderful opportunity at a brilliant club with one of the best managers in the world. As soon as I spoke to the head coach I knew I had to come.”

De Zerbi welcomed the addition, describing Savinho as “a player who brings energy, imagination and quality in wide positions” with “the courage to attack defenders and the ability to change a game with his creativity.”

The deal could be the first of two transfers between the clubs this summer, with Tottenham and City reported to be in talks over a move for Omar Marmoush. City, meanwhile, have recouped over £230m in sales this summer and are also closing in on an £85m deal for midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi, while holding talks with Newcastle over midfielder Nico Gonzalez.

Along with Savinho, Tonali and Fernandes, Spurs have added £52m defender Jan Paul van Hecke and brought in Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Martin Dubravka on free transfers during the current window.
