Tony Adams sold his £4m Cotswolds mansion to Liam Gallagher — and nearly lost his cannons in the deal

Former Arsenal captain Tony Adams sold his sprawling Cotswolds estate to Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher in 2025 for £4 million — double what Adams reportedly paid for the property back in 2002 — and the transaction came with an unexpected dispute over Arsenal memorabilia.

The 12,000 sq ft country house near Cirencester features eight bedrooms, seven bathrooms, five reception rooms, a tennis court, a swimming pool, a detached two-bedroom cottage, and approximately 5.39 acres of Cotswold countryside. It also had a pair of cannons positioned near the front door, mirroring those outside Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium — and that is where negotiations got complicated.

“Liam went, ‘They’ve got to go,’” Adams told FourFourTwo with a grin. “But Debbie said, ‘No, they’re staying here.’” Debbie Gwyther, Gallagher’s partner, is an Arsenal supporter from Stevenage, which made the cannons a point of pride rather than negotiation. Adams, however, had the final word: “I said, ‘They’re not staying. They were coming with me!’”

Adams described both Gallagher and Gwyther warmly. “Liam’s lovely, and Debbie’s great. She’s an Arsenal fan. Stevenage girl. Her sister Katie as well. They’re great Arsenal fans.” The shared footballing allegiance helped break the ice during the viewing, even if it briefly threatened to derail the sale.

Adams’ reason for leaving the property was straightforward: he and his wife wanted to return to London, where she is studying for a Master’s degree in early modern history.

Gallagher, whose every move was closely followed during Oasis’s summer 2025 reunion tour, addressed his rural relocation directly on social media. “To all the BEAUTIFUL people from the Cotswolds, I come in peace,” he posted on X. “You won’t even know I’m there. I’m not like all those divvy celebrities who like to show off. I’m LOFI.” A later post reported that his new neighbours had “not stopped baking me cakes and scones.”

For Adams, the sale has produced at least one ironic footnote. The 66-cap England international noted that at a recent public event, an hour-long conversation covering Arsenal, addiction, and his broader career was eventually eclipsed by a single question about the house deal — a reminder that even a decorated football career can be upstaged by the right celebrity neighbour.
