Madrid's Estadio Metropolitano confirmed as host of the 2027 Champions League Final

The 2027 Champions League Final will be staged at the Estadio Metropolitano in Madrid on June 5, 2027, UEFA has confirmed, ending a bidding contest that also involved Hungary and Azerbaijan.

Spain was awarded the final during a second bidding round after the original process produced complications. Italy had initially been in contention, but the San Siro was ruled out as a viable venue due to ongoing refurbishment works in Milan. Hungary, which hosted the 2027 bid alongside Azerbaijan’s Olympic Stadium in Baku, was instead appointed to stage the 2026 final.

The Baku bid was ultimately unsuccessful, a result many travelling supporters across Europe will welcome given the logistical challenges of reaching the Azerbaijani capital compared to a major Western European city.

The Spanish venue was formally confirmed in September 2025, giving clubs and fans nearly two years to plan for the occasion.

Last season’s finalists Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal will both be hoping to return to the showpiece. PSG, managed by Luis Enrique, lifted the trophy for the second consecutive year after beating Arsenal on penalties in Budapest’s Puskas Arena — a final that came weeks after the Gunners had claimed the Premier League title. The French club won their first-ever Champions League the year prior in Munich at the Allianz Arena, and are now chasing an unprecedented European three-peat.

Arsenal, meanwhile, have never won the Champions League and will be eager to go one step further in 2027 after their penalty heartbreak in Hungary.

The current Champions League campaign is already underway, with all 36 league-phase clubs in action. Manchester United are among those making their mark this week, hosting Azerbaijani champions Sabah FK in the club’s Champions League debut.
