Tolisso extends with Lyon until 2029 by accepting pay cut
Corentin Tolisso will extend his contract with Olympique Lyonnais by two additional seasons until June 2029. The captain, the club's highest earner, has accepted a salary reduction to help Lyon comply with DNCG constraints.
Corentin Tolisso will indeed extend his contract with Olympique Lyonnais. The 31-year-old midfielder reached an agreement on Sunday with club executives on a two-year extension, taking his contract through June 2029, according to L’Équipe journalist Hugo Guillemet.
The agreement involves a significant financial sacrifice from the Lyon captain. As the club’s highest earner, Tolisso has accepted a salary reduction to allow Lyon to comply with restrictions imposed by the Direction nationale du contrôle de gestion (DNCG), which currently oversees the wage bill of the Rhône-based club. Official signing is expected early in the week.
The extension had been announced at the end of the season by sporting director Matthieu Louis-Jean, but it now takes concrete form. Tolisso, who had only one year remaining on his contract, thus chooses to commit long-term to his academy club.
On the sporting front, the international midfielder delivered a solid season, compiling 11 goals and four assists in 30 Ligue 1 matches. Figures that justify Lyon executives’ commitment to retaining their captain, despite the budget constraints weighing on the club.
