Second-to-last in Ligue 1, OM receives support from FFF president

Five Ligue 1 matchdays and a second-to-last place in the standings: OM is going through its worst season start in several years, and the international break arrives as a welcome respite for Bruno Genesio and his players.

After a convincing opening victory against Strasbourg (4-0), Marseille followed with five consecutive defeats across all competitions. The latest came Sunday evening at the Vélodrome, against PSG (1-2) in a Classique played in front of their own supporters.

This negative spiral did not escape Philippe Diallo. The president of the French Football Federation spoke in the pages of La Provence to show his support for the Phocaean club. “Marseille is an integral part of the history of our football. French football therefore needs a strong Marseille, because it is part of these positive rivalries that make the championship more recognized and exciting,” he declared.

Diallo nonetheless sees encouraging signs in the performance against PSG. “The Marseille players did not play a bad match against Paris, so that shows they may be on the right trajectory to regain the place that should be theirs,” he believes. Before concluding with a clear message about collective stakes: “We will have to rebuild, it is in the interest of OM supporters but more broadly of all French football, because it needs an OM that competes at the top of the table.”

For OM supporters, the next fixture is set for October 11, with an away trip to Troyes, followed by a home match against Angers a week later. Two seemingly winnable matches, but which have become almost essential to stop the bleeding.
