Saint-Étienne reclaims top spot in Ligue 2 with dominant 2-0 victory over Rodez at Geoffroy-Guichard
Thanks to goals from Ballo and Boakye, ASSE secured their sixth win in eight Ligue 2 matches on Saturday evening and reclaimed first place in the standings.
Saint-Étienne reclaimed the top of the Ligue 2 championship with a 2-0 victory over Rodez on Saturday, October 10, at Geoffroy-Guichard, in the 8th round. The Greens erased a draw and a defeat conceded before the international break.
The Saint-Étienne side opened the scoring as early as the 14th minute through Ballo, before Boakye doubled the lead in the 54th to seal the result. A convincing win that brings ASSE’s tally to six victories in eight league matches.
This record allows them to reclaim first place in the overall standings, just hours after being overtaken by Red Star, who defeated Clermont 3-2 earlier in the day.
On the Saint-Étienne side, Cathro fielded a 4-2-3-1 with Larsonneur in goal, a defence made up of Ferreira, Pedro, Naïr and Old, and a midfield built around Bernauer and Csongvai. Ballo, Breum and Cardona provided the attacking impetus behind striker Boakye. Rodez, for their part, lined up in a 5-3-2 under Santini’s orders, but failed to seriously trouble the opposing defence.
