PSG beats Le Mans 3-1 but ultra banner inflames Parc des Princes
PSG defeated Le Mans 3-1 on matchday 6 of Ligue 1, climbing to within three points of the top. However, the evening was marred by the removal of a political banner from the stands, which prompted the Collectif ultras Paris to temporarily leave the terraces.
PSG beat Le Mans 3-1 on Saturday evening at Parc des Princes in matchday 6 of Ligue 1, but the match was overshadowed by a fierce controversy in the stands that nearly turned into an incident.
With a heavily rotated lineup four days before a trip to Manchester City, the Parisians took time to make the difference. Beraldo opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 19th minute, but Mafouta equalized for a deserving Le Mans side in the 54th. Kvaratskhelia (61st) and then Akliouche (68th) eventually sealed the win. In added time, Doué missed a second penalty that could have increased the margin.
In the standings, PSG climbed to fifth place and moved to within three points of the summit.
But it was in the stands that the evening took an unexpected turn. A banner deployed by supporters bearing the message « Vos milices répriment, notre jeunesse résiste » in reference to high school student mobilization was removed by stewards. In protest, members of the Collectif ultras Paris (CUP) then left the terraces. They eventually returned to their seats shortly before the start of the second half.
