Rodrigues and Hernandez both face six-month layoffs after UFC Sacramento leg injury scare

Gregory Rodrigues and Anthony Hernandez walked out of their UFC Sacramento main event with more than a decision result to show for it. The California State Athletic Commission released its post-event medical suspensions on Monday, revealing that both fighters face potential six-month layoffs due to eerily similar suspected fractures.

Rodrigues, who earned a unanimous decision victory, has been issued a 180-day suspension unless cleared by a physician for a possible fracture to his right leg. Hernandez faces the same timeline, with his suspension tied to a possible fracture to his left knee — an injury that appears directly linked to the heavy leg kicks Rodrigues landed throughout the contest, several of which buckled Hernandez during the fight.

The pair also carry 45-day suspensions, 30 days of no-contact, and the standard seven-day mandatory suspension that applies to all competitors.

The potential fracture concerns did not stop with the main event. Marquel Mederos, despite finishing his fight by knockout, is also looking at a possible six-month suspension pending physician clearance for a suspected fracture to his right orbital bone. Top prospect Larryan Douglas faces an identical situation — a possible six-month hold for a potential fracture to his right orbital. Douglas’s coach Cub Swanson confirmed the broken orbital bone after the fight, stating it will need to heal before his fighter can compete again.

Elise Reed rounds out the list of fighters facing the longest potential suspensions, requiring physician clearance for a possible fracture to her nose from the card’s opening bout.

Several other fighters received shorter mandatory suspensions. Roman Dolidze and Mason Jones each drew 45-day suspensions with 30 days of no-contact following TKO losses, as did Serghei Spivak and Jeisla Chavez. Anthony Wint received a 60-day suspension or clearance by a physician for a laceration to his right eyebrow. Vitor Petrino and Reinier de Ridder were each issued the standard seven-day mandatory suspension.
