Rivaldo, Cafu and Premier League legends to clash at Goodison Park in Game4Hope charity match

A glittering cast of Premier League icons and global football legends will converge on Goodison Park on Saturday, 26 September for Game4Hope, a charity match raising funds for Everton in the Community and Shelter. The fixture, originally scheduled for Hill Dickinson Stadium, pits a combined Merseyside XI against a Rest of the World team in aid of tackling homelessness across Merseyside and beyond.

The Merseyside side will be co-managed by Everton legend Peter Reid and Liverpool great John Barnes, with Tim Cahill captaining the team from the pitch. Returning to Goodison for the occasion are Everton favourites Leighton Baines, Gareth Barry, Phil Jagielka, Yakubu, Joleon Lescott and Louis Saha, joined by former Liverpool stars Robbie Fowler, David James, Ryan Babel, Jari Litmanen and John Aldridge.

The Rest of the World XI will be captained by World Cup winner Rivaldo, who is joined by fellow Brazil great Cafu, Chelsea icon Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Manchester United defender Jaap Stam and Dutch midfield legend Clarence Seedorf — a lineup that spans some of the most decorated careers in the sport’s modern era.

Beyond the footballing names, a number of celebrities are also set to feature on the pitch, including boxer Tony Bellew, comedian John Bishop and UFC fighter Molly McCann, while musician Tinie Tempah is scheduled to headline the half-time entertainment.

Channel 5’s director of sport Raphael Pendergast said the broadcaster was “delighted to work with LGNDS and Everton FC to bring this brilliant event” to its audience, describing it as “an unmissable event for a fantastic cause.”

Kick-off at Goodison Park is set for 4.45pm, with coverage beginning at 4pm. The relocation to Goodison was confirmed by Everton on Friday, with the club noting it gave football’s biggest names “the opportunity to return to one of the sport’s most iconic stadiums” before it closes following the move to the new Bramley-Moore Dock arena.
