Injured Mbappé spotted in Paris instead of Real Madrid training ground, reigniting controversy
Absent from France's Nations League squad due to a left knee hyperextension, Kylian Mbappé was photographed in Paris with actress Ester Exposito while he was supposed to be undergoing rehabilitation at Real Madrid's Valdebebas training centre.
Kylian Mbappé found himself at the centre of fresh controversy in Spain after El Chiringuito broadcast images showing him in Paris, while the Real Madrid forward was supposed to be recovering at Valdebebas following a hyperextension of the posterior capsule of his left knee.
Forced to leave the pitch early during France’s victory over Turkey in the Nations League, the France captain was ruled out for the subsequent match against Italy — the Bleus’ first home game under Zinedine Zidane. Real Madrid had not specified a length of absence in its official statement, but Spanish media reported between ten days and two weeks out.
According to El Chiringuito, Mbappé did not report to Valdebebas training centre during the last two days of treatment. Images broadcast by the programme instead show him in the French capital in the company of actress Ester Exposito. This trip sparked confusion and frustration among some Madrid supporters and observers, surprised to see an injured player travelling rather than following his rehabilitation protocol.
Some Spanish commentators openly questioned the reality of the injury or the forward’s level of commitment to the club. The episode recalls a similar controversy last season, when a getaway to Sardinia during a period of unavailability had already fuelled criticism.
On Real Madrid’s side and José Mourinho’s, official calm prevails. The club’s entourage suggests that Mbappé may have obtained prior approval from the board and medical staff for this short Paris trip. This episode nonetheless adds another layer of tension to the already complex relationship between the player, supporters and Spanish media.
