Raya admits La Liga dream as Arsenal explore Club Brugge striker Tresoldi
David Raya has revealed he would love to play in La Liga one day, despite being under contract at Arsenal until 2028. The Gunners are also reportedly exploring a January move for Club Brugge striker Nicolo Tresoldi, who has scored nine goals in 12 games this season.
David Raya has admitted he harbours ambitions of playing in La Liga, casting a shadow over his long-term future at Arsenal, while the club is reportedly exploring a January move for Club Brugge striker Nicolo Tresoldi as Mikel Arteta seeks to sharpen his attacking options.
Raya opens the door to Spain
Raya, 31, has been one of the Premier League’s standout goalkeepers since joining Arsenal on loan from Brentford in 2023, winning three consecutive Premier League Golden Gloves and playing a key role as the Gunners clinched the title last season. He is contracted at the Emirates until 2028.
Despite that security, the Spain international told Marca he is drawn to the idea of testing himself in his home country. “Yes, I would love to, I would love to try La Liga,” he said. “For now, I’m very happy here, but I would like to try the Spanish league. I think it’s a very competitive league. Maybe, in the future, I could play for a Spanish club. I’m Spanish and I would love to play there, that’s for sure.”
Raya also featured in Spain’s World Cup-winning squad this summer, having spent his entire professional career in English football with Blackburn Rovers, Brentford, and Arsenal.
Tresoldi emerges as January target
With Arteta looking to add firepower up front, Club Brugge striker Nicolo Tresoldi has reportedly emerged as a transfer target ahead of the January window. The 22-year-old Germany Under-21 international has scored nine goals in 12 appearances for the Belgian club this season, including a Champions League hat-trick against Inter Milan.
The interest is said to have been prompted by concerns over Arsenal’s striking depth. Arteta has started Kai Havertz in every Premier League game so far, with Viktor Gyokeres struggling to make an impact when called upon. Arsenal’s existing connection with Club Brugge — the Belgian side sold Christos Tzolis to the Gunners in the summer — could smooth any potential negotiations.
Arsenal’s ambitions this season extend beyond the Premier League title they won last term. Arteta has made no secret of his desire to win the club’s first Champions League trophy, and the squad additions made in the summer — including Ezri Konsa and Bruno Guimaraes alongside Tzolis — reflect that intent. Unsuccessful pursuits of Vinicius Junior and Julian Alvarez earlier in the year underlined the club’s willingness to invest heavily in attacking reinforcements.
