Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, diagnosed the day after he was substituted due to injury during PSG’s 4-2 Ligue des Champions victory over Barcelona. The 25-year-old Georgian forward will need surgery within the next ten days.

With a minimum recovery period of six to seven months, a return this season is highly unlikely. “It would be a miracle if he played again before the end of the season. Especially since any complication in the process and it’s finished,” said François Pietra, former doctor at Strasbourg. The expert tempered any prospect of participation in the final stages of the Ligue des Champions: “Even with intensive preparation, it’s going to be extremely tight.” He also noted that clubs typically only communicate about the main injury, without specifying any associated lesions that could extend recovery times.

Despite this major setback, PSG intends to press ahead with extending its winger’s contract. Negotiations are already underway and could result in an agreement tying him to the club until 2032, meaning three additional years for the player who joined Paris in January 2025. The main sticking point remains salary conditions: Kvaratskhelia, buoyed by two seasons of high-level performances including a particularly successful recent campaign, believes his value has increased, while PSG wants to maintain balance in its wage bill. The club nevertheless wants to secure its winger for the long term, injury or not.
