Raphinha named Barça captain, Yamal fifth: Flick reveals hierarchy
Ahead of the trip to Valencia, Hansi Flick clarified the order of captains at FC Barcelona: Raphinha leading, followed by Pedri, Eric Garcia, Frenkie de Jong and 19-year-old Lamine Yamal.
Hansi Flick has unveiled the new captain hierarchy at FC Barcelona ahead of the Blaugranas’ trip to Valencia. Raphinha will be the primary captain, ahead of Pedri, Eric Garcia, Frenkie de Jong and Lamine Yamal.
The German coach explained that he personally selected the first two names with his staff, while the next three were designated by the players themselves. “My staff and I understand the team’s composition better, and it is important for me to identify influential players. That is why I chose Raphinha and Pedri, because they are essential,” Flick said.
The list also reflects absences: Barcelona lost two of its usual captains with the departures of Marc-André ter Stegen and Ronald Araujo. Eric Garcia and Lamine Yamal replace them numerically in this hierarchy. At 19 years old, the Spanish international thus finds himself invested with additional responsibility, even though he currently occupies the last spot on the list.
