PSG crushes Villarreal 6-0 and equals Lyon's Ligue des Champions unbeaten record
With a 6-0 victory away at Villarreal, including four goals scored in sixteen minutes, PSG equals Lyon's 14-match unbeaten streak in the Ligue des Champions established between 2004 and 2006.
Paris Saint-Germain inflicted a 6-0 thrashing on Villarreal at Stade de la Céramique, becoming the first team in Ligue des Champions history to score six goals away from home against a Spanish club. This display propels PSG to the top of the group stage, sole leaders with a perfect record.
The evening first made history through its sheer speed of execution. Joao Neves, Désiré Doué, Senny Mayulu and Fabian Ruiz scored four goals in just 16 minutes and 2 seconds — the fastest sequence of four goals ever recorded in the Ligue des Champions. Stade de Reims had taken twenty minutes to achieve the same feat against Ards in 1958; Paris did it faster, away from home, against a far more formidable opponent.
This success also gives PSG a significant collective milestone: with 14 consecutive matches unbeaten in the Ligue des Champions, Luis Enrique’s side equals Olympique Lyonnais’s unbeaten record. This legendary streak, established between December 2004 and March 2006 under Paul Le Guen’s direction, saw the Lyonnais beat Real Madrid (3-0) and dominate Werder Brême before ending against AC Milan. Paris’s run began on 28 January with a 1-1 draw against Newcastle.
Where Lyon stumbled in the quarter-finals against PSV without lifting the trophy, PSG’s current generation has already converted this consistency into silverware against Arsenal last season, before continuing this year with convincing victories against Manchester City and FC Barcelona. Deprived of Ousmane Dembélé and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, the Parisian squad displayed clinical efficiency that reinforces its status as favourite.
