Postecoglou ends nine-month exile with two-year deal at Saudi champions Al-Nassr
Ange Postecoglou has been appointed head coach of Al-Nassr on a two-year contract, ending a nine-month spell out of management that followed his 39-day tenure at Nottingham Forest. The Australian succeeds Jorge Jesus at the Saudi Pro League champions.
Ange Postecoglou is back in management, appointed head coach of Saudi Pro League champions Al-Nassr on a two-year contract after nine months without a club.
The 60-year-old’s last role ended abruptly last October when Nottingham Forest sacked him just 39 days into his tenure at the City Ground, having failed to win any of his eight matches across all competitions. Before that, Postecoglou had been dismissed by Tottenham Hotspur despite delivering the club’s first trophy in 17 years — the 2025 UEFA Europa League title.
In the months since leaving Forest, Postecoglou served as a studio analyst on ITV’s World Cup coverage. His name was linked with the vacant Scotland manager’s position following Steve Clarke’s resignation, and he was reported to be a candidate for the Kazakhstan national team job before salary demands reportedly ended that pursuit.
At Al-Nassr, Postecoglou succeeds Jorge Jesus, whose one-year contract expired at the end of last season despite the Portuguese coach guiding the club to the Saudi Pro League title. Postecoglou will inherit a squad with significant World Cup representation: Portugal internationals Cristiano Ronaldo and Joao Felix are among nine Al-Nassr players involved in the tournament’s knockout stage, with Sadio Mane and several Saudi Arabia representatives also featuring.
Postecoglou’s coaching career spans three decades and has taken him to Greece — the country of his birth — Australia, Japan, Scotland, and England. His most decorated spell came at Celtic, where he won five trophies in two seasons including two Scottish Premiership titles and a domestic treble, before moving to Spurs in 2023.
