Marc Retali will not be part of Zinedine Zidane’s France staff after all. The Alsatian podologist, who appeared in an initial version of the list published on the FFF website in August, was excluded from the final composition unveiled on Tuesday, replaced by Serge Isidoro, a former collaborator at Benfica and Nanterre basketball club.

The reason for his removal stems from a series of unauthorized public statements. Before any official communication from the federation, Retali announced his appointment on his social media accounts, then gave an interview in which he expressed his joy at joining Zidane’s coaching staff. An approach that angered the new France team doctor, Hervé Collado.

“The duty of discretion was not respected,” those close to France’s coaching staff indicated. This terse formula sums up the line set by the FFF: staff members do not communicate outside the federation’s official channels, all the more so before their appointment is even announced.

Zidane’s complete coaching staff is now finalized, just hours before the manager’s first squad list is released on Friday.
