Pirelli triggers one-year option to extend F1 tyre supply deal through 2028
Pirelli has activated a one-year extension clause in its Formula 1 tyre supply contract, keeping the Italian manufacturer as the sport's sole tyre supplier through 2028 — stretching its unbroken tenure to 18 years.
Pirelli will remain Formula 1’s exclusive tyre supplier until the end of 2028 after triggering a one-year option embedded in its existing contract, extending an unbroken partnership with the sport that will reach 18 years.
The Italian manufacturer first joined F1 as sole supplier in 2011, replacing Bridgestone, in an arrangement that also covers the junior feeder series F2 and F3. In 2023, Pirelli successfully defended its position by winning a fresh FIA tender — beating off a renewed challenge from Bridgestone — to secure a further three-year deal running to the close of 2027.
That contract contained a provision for an additional season, and the option has now been formally exercised, locking Pirelli in for a 19th consecutive year of supply when the 2028 campaign gets underway.
The extension ensures continuity for teams and the FIA as Formula 1 moves into what is expected to be a significant regulatory cycle, with new technical rules scheduled to come into force in 2026.
