Perris-Redding hat-trick carries USA past Italy to seal four straight wins for first time since 2006
USA captain Georgie Perris-Redding scored a hat-trick and made 15 tackles as the Eagles beat Italy 36-27 in Mansfield, Texas, recording their fourth consecutive Test victory for the first time in nearly two decades.
Georgie Perris-Redding delivered a commanding all-round performance — three tries, 18 carries and 15 tackles — as the USA Women’s Eagles defeated Italy 36-27 at Texas Health Mansfield Stadium to record their fourth consecutive Test win for the first time since 2006.
The Eagles led 26-10 at half-time and appeared on course for a comfortable victory, but Italy rallied with three second-half tries to make the closing stages uncomfortable. Perris-Redding’s third try of the afternoon, supplemented by a Bella Vogel penalty, ultimately sealed the result and extended a winning run that has now accounted for three Guinness Women’s Six Nations sides this autumn.
“That was really tough,” Perris-Redding said at full-time. “I think we made it harder than we needed to, but I’m so proud of the girls. Thank you so much to this crowd, because we honestly couldn’t have done it without you guys.”
Despite the hat-trick, the 29-year-old captain was characteristically measured in her self-assessment. “I think the girls set me up nicely, and I just managed to dot the ball over the line,” she said. “I’m so glad that we could get the win back home. It’s really incredible.”
Perris-Redding also acknowledged there is work to do before the Eagles’ next WXV Global Series fixture. “Definitely closer than we’d like. We’ve got a lot of hard work to do now. We’re back on the ground next weekend. We know what we want to fix and change. Hopefully we can come back even better in Nashville.”
The result cements the USA’s status as a genuine force in women’s Test rugby heading into their remaining WXV fixtures against Italy and England’s Red Roses.
