Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has publicly pledged a €150 million (£130m) transfer bid for a ‘Galactico-level’ attacking player if he wins Sunday’s presidential election, setting off widespread speculation over the identity of his mystery target. Perez confirmed in an interview with Spanish TV show Horizonte that the player is an attacker currently at a Champions League club outside the Premier League — ruling out Erling Haaland, Jeremy Doku, and Harry Kane by name.

Despite Perez explicitly denying interest in Michael Olise, The Telegraph has reported that the 24-year-old Bayern Munich winger is precisely the player the president is prioritising. Incoming manager Jose Mourinho — whose appointment at the Bernabeu is contingent on Perez winning the election — is said to be driving the pursuit, and was reportedly spotted scouting in Germany.

Prying Olise away from Bayern would not be straightforward. The club’s honorary president Uli Hoeness has described the France international as “unsellable,” and Olise is contracted in Munich until 2029, meaning Real Madrid would need to test Bayern’s resolve with a record-level offer.

A second name has emerged from a different direction. Portuguese outlet Record has reported that PSG midfielder Vitinha is the most unexpected candidate Perez could deploy as a pre-election statement signing. Announcing such a deal, the report suggests, could serve as a decisive blow against Perez’s presidential rival Enrique Riquelme before voting opens on Sunday. Agent Jorge Mendes is said to be motivated to facilitate a move that would place his client under Mourinho at the Bernabeu. Vitinha has three years remaining on his PSG contract but holds a €115 million (£99.3m) release clause that Real Madrid could activate.

A third PSG player has also attracted attention from the Madrid hierarchy. Midfielder Joao Neves has been identified as a player of genuine interest, adding further intrigue to what could become a significant summer of recruitment at the club — provided Perez secures re-election.
