Parrott scores on Champions League debut to give Real Betis comeback win over 10-man Lille

Troy Parrott marked his Champions League debut with the decisive goal as Real Betis came from behind to beat 10-man Lille 3-2 in France. The Republic of Ireland striker fired a low left-footed shot across the goalkeeper and into the corner in the 54th minute to complete the turnaround.

The goal arrived just four days after Parrott scored an 81st-minute winner for Betis in a 1-0 victory over Real Madrid in Sevilla — a strike that came within 15 minutes of the 24-year-old coming off the bench. The former AZ forward, who joined the Spanish club this summer, has now scored in back-to-back appearances against two of Europe’s most decorated clubs.

Lille had twice led in the contest. They opened the scoring in the 12th minute before Marc Bartra equalised, only for Alexsandro to restore the French side’s advantage in the 37th minute. Bartra levelled again before Parrott’s winner settled it. Lille’s task was further complicated when Ethan Mbappé — brother of Kylian — was sent off for an elbow to the face of an opponent.

Elsewhere in the Champions League, Kylian Mbappé was on the scoresheet as Real Madrid edged Inter Milan 2-1 at the Bernabéu in José Mourinho’s first Champions League match back at the club. Mbappé opened the scoring from Brahim Díaz’s quick ball after a sloppy Curtis Jones pass gifted Madrid possession, before a goalkeeping error from Josep Martínez — attempting a back-heel inside his own six-yard box — allowed Federico Valverde to poke home a second. Carlos Augusto pulled one back for Inter late on, but Madrid held on to give Mourinho his first Champions League win since returning for his second spell, more than 13 years after his last.

In other results, Serhou Guirassy’s late double secured Borussia Dortmund a 3-2 home victory over Villarreal after the Spanish side had cancelled out Renato Veiga’s own goal, while Razvan Marin’s free kick earned AEK Athens a 1-0 home win over LASK.
