OM Sign 18-Year-Old Talent Jephthe Malanda from LOSC
Olympique de Marseille have officially completed the transfer of Jephthe Malanda, an 18-year-old attacking midfielder trained at Lille, who has signed his first professional contract with the Marseille club. A second young prospect, defender Sacha Lung from Strasbourg, is also reportedly on his way to the Ligue 1 side.
Olympique de Marseille have recruited Jephthe Malanda, an 18-year-old attacking midfielder trained at LOSC, who has signed his first professional contract with the Marseille club. The information was revealed by L’Équipe journalist Loïc Tanzi.
Malanda was considered one of the greatest talents from Lille’s academy. LOSC had attempted to convince him to sign his first professional deal, but the Corbeil-Essonnes native ultimately opted for the Marseille project. Tanzi notes that further signings are expected in the coming weeks.
This recruitment fits into the post-academy strategy implemented by OM’s new sporting direction, in line with the profile of Robinho Vaz. The idea: to attract young players at the end of their academy training at other clubs before they turn professional.
According to the same sources, OM have also completed the arrival of Sacha Lung, a French under-18 international defender trained at Strasbourg. He too reportedly chose to sign his first professional contract at Marseille rather than remain at his academy club.
