Olympique de Marseille has reportedly reached a principle agreement with Romanian international Ianis Hagi for a transfer in January, according to Romanian media Fanatik.ro, which assesses the chances of the deal going through at 90%.

The 27-year-old attacking midfielder is currently under contract with Turkish club Alanyaspor until 2027. OM will therefore need to negotiate with the Turkish side to finalize the transfer. Son of Romanian football legend Gheorghe Hagi, the player reportedly turned down a significant contract offer from Maccabi Tel Aviv last summer, preferring to wait in hopes of joining Marseille.

However, the financial context of the Phocaean club complicates the operation. Under surveillance by the DNCG, the financial watchdog of French football, OM was unable to recruit during the summer transfer window and instead parted ways with several key players, including Mason Greenwood and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The club’s ability to complete this winter move therefore remains conditional on the evolution of its financial situation.
