Olise back in training, Zidane relieved ahead of France squad gathering
Michael Olise returned to training with Bayern Munich on Monday, less than 48 hours after suffering a right knee injury during the Bundesliga derby against Borussia Dortmund (2-2). The French international wore a knee strap but interim coach Aaron Danks confirmed he was doing « rather well », easing concerns for France manager Zinédine Zidane ahead of next week's gathering at Clairefontaine.
Michael Olise returned to collective training with Bayern Munich on Monday, less than 48 hours after suffering an injury during the Bundesliga clash against Borussia Dortmund (2-2). The left winger was wearing a right knee strap, but interim coach Aaron Danks confirmed he was doing « rather well ».
The concern had been real. On Saturday evening, the winger left the pitch complaining of right knee pain, just over a week before France’s next squad gathering scheduled for Clairefontaine. Zinédine Zidane must already manage without Ousmane Dembélé, who suffered a thigh injury during PSG’s Ligue des Champions match against Barcelona and is unavailable for the international break, as well as without William Saliba, Manu Koné and Estéban Lepaul.
Olise is in any case included in the squad selected by Bayern for the trip to Atlético Madrid in the Ligue des Champions on Tuesday, although Danks did not guarantee his participation. His presence in training nonetheless remains an encouraging sign for France, who will face Italy and Turkey during this international window.
For Bayern, the context remains tense: the attacking sector is severely hit with the simultaneous absences of Luis Diaz, Jamal Musiala, Serge Gnabry and Ismail Saibari. For the Munich club, the trip to Madrid promises to be perilous. For the French national team, the situation is somewhat less bleak than it was on Saturday evening.
