Nottingham Forest have publicly demanded that supporters stop singing a chant described as misogynistic, warning that the club itself could face sanctions if the behaviour continues. The statement was released ahead of Sunday’s Premier League fixture against Arsenal at the City Ground.

The chant in question — a version of ‘Nottingham is full of fun’ containing explicit sexual references — has been part of a minority section of the fanbase for decades. Forest’s statement acknowledged its history while making clear it will no longer be tolerated.

“We recognise that a particular chant has a long history among small sections of our support,” the club said. “While it is only sung by a minority of supporters, the potential impact of this chant and its misogynistic nature cannot be overlooked.”

The club confirmed the issue had been raised by Nottinghamshire Police and anti-discrimination organisation Kick It Out, and that the decision followed consultation with Forest’s Fan Advisory Board. Supporters identified engaging in discriminatory chanting may face education sessions, club bans, or placement on acceptable behaviour contracts.

“We want all supporters, including the women and girls who are an integral part of our Forest family, to feel safe and respected at the City Ground and when following the team away from home,” the statement continued.

The announcement drew a mixed response on social media, with some supporters pushing back. One fan suggested the chant had origins tied to local demographics in the 1960s and 1970s, adding that female supporters in their section also sang it.

The timing places added pressure on a Forest side already under scrutiny on the pitch. New head coach Oliver Glasner’s team had won just one of their opening six Premier League games before the Arsenal fixture, leaving them in the relegation zone. Sunday’s home match against the reigning champions was also Forest’s last at the City Ground for several weeks, with away trips to Ipswich and Brentford to follow.
