No contact made as AC Milan move for Mason Mount proves wide of the mark
Sources close to Mason Mount say there has been no contact between the midfielder and AC Milan, contradicting an Italian report claiming the Manchester United player had been offered to newly appointed manager Ruben Amorim.
Sources close to Mason Mount have confirmed there has been no contact between the Manchester United midfielder and AC Milan, dismissing an Italian report published this weekend that claimed the 27-year-old had been offered to the Serie A club.
The report gained traction partly because of Ruben Amorim’s connection to Mount. The Portuguese coach, recently appointed as Milan’s new head coach, was a vocal admirer of the England international during his tenure at Old Trafford. Amorim publicly praised Mount after a goal at Molineux last season, saying the midfielder could “defend and attack” and had become a leader in the dressing room by leading by example on the pitch.
Despite that history, those close to Mount were said to be surprised by the claim. The midfielder is currently training in Spain with an individual coach ahead of United’s pre-season return to Carrington, and is focused on making a strong start to the 2026/27 campaign.
Mount is expected to remain at Manchester United, where interim head coach Michael Carrick has made clear he figures in his plans. “I like Mason a lot, and he’s an important player for this team and this club,” Carrick said in January.
Mount started Carrick’s first game in charge against Sunderland in May and was handed another start on the final day of the season against Brighton. A minor training injury sustained after Carrick’s second match — a defeat to Arsenal — had kept him sidelined until mid-March, but he returned to produce his most consistent run of form in a United shirt during the first half of last season, scoring against Sunderland, Crystal Palace, and Wolves.
United return to a fuller schedule in 2026/27, competing across four competitions — the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, and Carabao Cup — and Mount is regarded as an important senior figure within the squad as the club looks to rebuild.
