Manchester United are being linked with RB Leipzig midfielder Nicolas Seiwald as a ready-made replacement for Casemiro, who departed Old Trafford this summer after helping the club qualify for the Champions League.

Seiwald, 25, plays as a defensive midfielder and has been described as a “relentless, high-volume interceptor.” He holds 47 caps for Austria and is expected to start their opening World Cup fixture against Jordan. The Austrian began his career at RB Salzburg before moving to Leipzig in 2023.

The recommendation comes from AI performance analysis tool GoHumanize, which was tasked with identifying under-the-radar talents likely to make a significant impact at the tournament. Seiwald was among those flagged, alongside Colombia’s Kevin Castano, Panama’s Adalberto Carrasquilla, and Croatia’s Luka Sucic.

Seiwald is currently valued at approximately £19 million, but GoHumanize projects that figure could rise to £38.9 million by the time the World Cup concludes — meaning United could save around £20 million by moving early.

United have already made one midfield addition this window, agreeing a deal worth £34 million plus £3.8 million in add-ons for Atalanta’s Ederson. Manager Michael Carrick is nonetheless expected to pursue further reinforcements in the engine room.

The club have also been linked with England midfielder Elliot Anderson as they look to reshape a midfield that lost Casemiro’s defensive presence at the base.
