Carrick and De Zerbi both face the axe as Manchester United host bottom-placed Tottenham
Michael Carrick and Roberto De Zerbi are joint-favourites to be the next Premier League manager sacked, priced at 9/4, as their sides meet at Old Trafford on Saturday with United 12th and Spurs rooted to the bottom of the table.
Michael Carrick and Roberto De Zerbi head into Saturday’s late clash at Old Trafford as the Premier League managers most likely to lose their jobs, with both priced at 9/4 by Betfair to be the next head coach dismissed. The result between Manchester United and Tottenham will only intensify the scrutiny on whichever manager comes out on the losing side.
Tottenham sit bottom of the Premier League table after five games — three defeats and two draws — having failed to score in their opening four league fixtures before conceding three to Aston Villa in a 3-2 loss. De Zerbi earned goodwill by keeping Spurs up on the final day of last season, but the goodwill is running thin. His side have shown flashes of attacking intent without the clinical edge to convert them into results.
Carrick is under comparable pressure at United, who are 12th after five games with one win, two draws and two defeats. A 1-0 loss to ten-man Manchester City, a 3-2 home defeat to Brighton and a 1-1 draw at Fulham have eroded confidence in the manager, despite the credit he earned by guiding United into the Champions League last term — a run that earned him the permanent role ahead of the 2026-27 season.
Elsewhere in the sack-race conversation, Alvaro Arbeloa is priced at 4/1 to be the next departure. The former Real Madrid coach inherited a stable Fulham side from Marco Silva but has overseen a slide to 19th, with reports of unrest among players — Alex Iwobi and Emile Smith Rowe both removed references to the club from their social media accounts.
Pierre Sage, who arrived from Lens to replace the highly successful Oliver Glasner at Crystal Palace, is at 9/2. Glasner won the club an FA Cup, a Community Shield and a European trophy; Sage’s Palace currently sit 15th with one win, one draw and three defeats from their opening five games.
