Newcastle's Jaissle warns Manchester United off £75m left-back Lewis Hall

Newcastle United manager Matthias Jaissle has publicly signalled that left-back Lewis Hall is not for sale, responding to Manchester United’s reported interest with an emphatic endorsement of the player’s long-term future at St James’ Park.

Jaissle, speaking at a press conference this week, described Hall as a player with enormous untapped potential. “He’s a huge, huge potential player,” the German said. “He’s delivering already on a high level but we all know that there’s much more to come. We’re really excited that he is a part of that team and hopefully also in the long term.”

The comments come after Manchester United, under manager Michael Carrick, failed to add a new left-back before Tuesday’s transfer deadline despite the position being identified as a clear area of need. Hall, valued at around £75 million, was reportedly United’s primary target in that role.

Hall has begun the season in encouraging form. He conceded a late penalty in Newcastle’s 2-2 opening-day draw against Liverpool but bounced back with a standout display in the Magpies’ 2-0 win at Tottenham the following week.

United’s summer business was heavily focused on midfield, with most major additions arriving in that area of the pitch. That selective approach has drawn scrutiny from supporters, particularly with the club returning to the Champions League this season and questions remaining about the squad’s depth in wide defensive positions.

Meanwhile, pundit Jamie Redknapp has suggested United also missed an opportunity by not signing Mamadou Sangare. The 24-year-old Mali international, who had been linked with a move to Old Trafford, ultimately joined Brentford after Carrick’s midfield overhaul was completed without him.

Carrick’s side travel to face Everton on Sunday looking to make it back-to-back wins, though new signing Carlos Baleba remains unavailable due to a fitness issue and will not feature.
