Barcelona Ready to Sell Koundé, Chelsea Inquiring About €55M Transfer
Sidelined by injury and facing competition for France, Jules Koundé is no longer considered untouchable by FC Barcelona. Chelsea has reportedly inquired about the terms of a transfer valued at €55 million.
Jules Koundé could leave FC Barcelona this summer. According to journalist Matteo Moretto, the Catalan club no longer considers the French right-back untouchable and would be willing to study offers for the 27-year-old defender, currently sidelined by an ankle sprain.
Still seeking liquidity despite their status as La Liga leaders, Barcelona’s board sees a potential sale of Koundé as a lever to shore up their finances. Under contract until 2030, the former Sevilla player is valued at €55 million by Transfermarkt.
His name had already been linked with Bayern Munich and Manchester City, but it is Chelsea that has reportedly positioned itself first. The London club, fifth in the Premier League, is said to have made contact to learn the financial terms of such a deal.
Koundé’s sporting situation further complicates his future at Barça. During Zinédine Zidane’s first gathering with the France national team last month, the defender saw Pierre Kalulu compete with him for the starting spot at right-back. This international competition, combined with Barcelona’s willingness to sell him, draws a potentially decisive turning point in his career.
