Netflix roasts World Cup winners: Dugarry targeted by Hakim Jemili on stage
The comedy show « Dans la sauce », broadcast on Netflix, brought together ten French World Cup winners from 1998 and 2018 at the Dôme de Paris for a full roast. Christophe Dugarry was the prime target of comedian Hakim Jemili.
Ten French World Cup winners agreed to be « grilled » Wednesday evening at the Dôme de Paris as part of « Dans la sauce », a comedy show presented by Paul de Saint Sernin. Marcel Desailly, Emmanuel Petit, Christophe Dugarry, Franck Lebœuf, Robert Pirès, Adil Rami, Blaise Matuidi, Presnel Kimpembe, Samuel Umtiti and Steve Mandanda, winners of the World Cups in 1998 and 2018, each endured barbs from several comedians.
It was Hakim Jemili, 36, who took on Christophe Dugarry. The artist immediately set the scene: « Christophe Dugarry, let’s put this in context: honestly, you don’t have the same level as Zidane. Besides, I have video evidence. » He then showed a failed move by the former striker during France’s match against South Africa on June 12, 1998, at the Stade Vélodrome.
Jemili didn’t stop there. Recalling that Dugarry had nonetheless scored the first goal for the Blues in the competition that evening, a header celebrated by sticking out his tongue, the comedian added, amid audience laughter: « It’s the first time he stuck his tongue out without it being to lick Zidane’s ass. »
The jab echoes a recurring criticism in football circles: the long-standing friendship between Dugarry and Zinédine Zidane, teammates at Bordeaux until 1996, may have influenced the choices of selectors who regularly called up the striker to the France squad. Dugarry, now a sports consultant, apparently accepted the exercise in good spirits.
