Nancy clinches fifth straight win and takes second place in Ligue 2
Capitalizing on Montpellier's loss to Metz (2-3) and Reims's defeat at Grenoble (3-2), Nancy beat Sochaux (1-0) in Matchday 12 of Ligue 2 to move into second place, behind Saint-Étienne on goal difference.
Nancy secured its fifth consecutive victory in Ligue 2 on Friday evening, defeating Sochaux 1-0 to claim second place in the standings on goal difference behind Saint-Étienne, following the opening matches of Matchday 12.
Montpellier had the chance to provisionally top the championship after Saint-Étienne’s defeat the previous weekend, but MHSC — which had the best defense in Ligue 2 before this match — faltered at home against Metz (2-3). Stade de Reims also fell to Grenoble (3-2), leaving the door open for Nancy to pull off the evening’s surprise.
ASNL, riding an impressive run, climbs to second place in the standings, level on points with the Greens but behind on goal difference. Saint-Étienne still has to travel to Laval on Saturday, which could reshuffle the top of the table.
In the other matches of the evening, Dijon moved back into contention for qualifying places thanks to their victory against Red Star (1-0), while Dunkerque dominated Guingamp convincingly (3-0).
In the lower reaches of the table, Grenoble is the big winner of the evening: their victory over Reims allows the Isérois to leave last place and escape the relegation zone, climbing to 15th position. Boulogne, for their part, also gave themselves breathing room by beating Annecy (3-0).
