Mourinho takes aim at Lamine Yamal: "He wouldn't have a place at Real Madrid"
Back on the Real Madrid bench, José Mourinho wasted no time targeting Barcelona's prodigy Lamine Yamal, claiming that the European and World champion would not fit into his squad.
José Mourinho opened his second spell at Real Madrid with a characteristic jab at Lamine Yamal, Barcelona’s rising star.
When asked about the young Spanish winger during an interview on the El Chiringuito show, the Portuguese manager first acknowledged his talent before striking: “He is undoubtedly an excellent player, with incredible room for improvement. It’s not common to be European and World champion at his age, but we have a top-level squad. He wouldn’t have a place among us. Mine are the best.”
The provocation rests on a weighty argument. Real Madrid’s attack indeed features Kylian Mbappé, Vinicius Junior, Jude Bellingham, Rodrygo, Brahim Diaz and Endrick, not to mention Yan Diomandé — an offensive arsenal that sets the bar very high for anyone aspiring to break in.
The outburst remains typical of the “Special One,” a master of drawing attention to himself in the opening days of a new role. Mourinho knows that targeting the rising symbol of his Catalan rival is the surest way to dominate the media space before his team even takes the pitch.
