Ipswich and Forest eye Liam Delap as Chelsea exile deepens under Xabi Alonso
Liam Delap has lost the No 9 shirt at Chelsea and is training separately from the main squad, with former club Ipswich Town and Nottingham Forest among those considering a summer move for the 23-year-old striker.
Ipswich Town and Nottingham Forest are weighing up moves for Chelsea forward Liam Delap, who has been effectively sidelined at Stamford Bridge after losing the No 9 shirt to new signing Joao Pedro under manager Xabi Alonso.
Delap, 23, is among a group of Chelsea players training separately from the first team as the club looks to move them on this summer. His situation has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs, most notably Ipswich — the side that sold him to Chelsea for £30m last year following their relegation from the top flight.
The England under-21 international managed just one Premier League goal during his debut season at Chelsea, and his standing at the club has slipped further since Alonso’s appointment. With Joao Pedro now preferred as the central striker, Delap faces a significant battle for minutes if he remains in west London.
Chelsea also have Nicolas Jackson available after the Senegal international spent last season on loan at Bayern Munich. Atletico Madrid are reported to be monitoring Jackson, with his future at the Bernabéu-bound Julian Alvarez potentially freeing up a striker berth in Madrid.
