McLaren unveils chrome Google Gemini livery for home British Grand Prix at Silverstone
McLaren will race in a special chrome livery at this weekend's British Grand Prix, honouring its Google Gemini partnership and drawing design inspiration from the M2B — the team's debut car at the 1966 Monaco Grand Prix.
McLaren has revealed a one-off chrome livery for this weekend’s British Grand Prix at Silverstone, created in collaboration with title partner Google Gemini and inspired by the team’s 1966 debut car, the McLaren M2B.
The predominantly chrome colour scheme marks the latest expression of McLaren’s ongoing partnership with Google, which began in 2022. The design pays direct homage to the M2B — the car Bruce McLaren raced at the 1966 Monaco Grand Prix — a connection the team leaned into earlier this season when it celebrated its 1000th grand prix in the principality with a dedicated livery and a demonstration run by 1998-99 world champion Mika Häkkinen in the historic machine.
“Our Silverstone livery is a celebration of where we began and everything we have built since,” said Louise McEwen, chief marketing officer at McLaren Racing. “The McLaren M2B represents the start of a journey defined by relentless innovation and a belief in possibility, and this design brings that spirit to life.”
McEwen added that the Google Gemini partnership shares the same founding principles. “Together, we are exploring how technology can unlock new ways to innovate, iterate and push performance forward, both on and off the track. This livery is a powerful expression of that shared mindset, honouring our heritage while looking firmly to the future.”
Google’s vice president of consumer and AI marketing, Marvin Chow, said the collaboration spans both creative and operational applications. “From sparking creative ideas with the Gemini app to securely turning complex datasets into real-time trackside intelligence with Gemini Enterprise, McLaren is showing what it means to harness the power of AI.”
McLaren is the second team to unveil a bespoke livery for the Silverstone round, following Williams. The British Grand Prix carries particular resonance for the Woking-based outfit: Lando Norris delivered an emotional home victory at the same circuit last year, a result that will add further weight to the team’s appearance in front of its home crowd this weekend.
