McGregor ends five-year UFC absence against Holloway at welterweight on July 11
Conor McGregor returns to the UFC Octagon on July 11 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, facing Max Holloway at UFC 329 after a five-year hiatus. The former two-division champion says a disciplined, low-profile training camp has him feeling "absolutely amazing" ahead of the welterweight bout.
Conor McGregor will end a five-year absence from the UFC Octagon when he faces Max Holloway at UFC 329 on July 11 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas — a welterweight contest that marks a new division for Holloway and a long-awaited comeback for one of the sport’s biggest names.
Speaking to The Mac Life, McGregor said the camp has been defined by hard work and deliberate silence rather than the social-media fanfare that has often surrounded his fight preparations. “I feel great. I feel absolutely amazing. Stellar,” the former two-division champion said. “The work has been exceptional. No corners cut. You know, no flash. We’ve been quiet this camp, and we’ve been at work. So, that’s confidence. If there’s a lack of confidence, you need to share things to get this ego boost. We don’t need it. We’ll do it on the night. I’m excited by it. I’m excited by my team and my country.”
The bout is a rematch of a fight the pair contested early in both men’s careers, but the circumstances are markedly different this time around. McGregor has previously competed at 170 pounds on three occasions, giving him a degree of familiarity with the weight class. Holloway, the former featherweight champion, will be stepping up to welterweight for the first time.
The weight-class dynamic adds an extra layer of intrigue to an already high-profile card. Holloway has been among the most active and decorated fighters in the UFC over the past decade, while McGregor’s last Octagon appearance came in July 2021 when he suffered a leg injury against Dustin Poirier. The length of the layoff and the move to welterweight make UFC 329 one of the more closely watched returns in recent MMA history.
