Mateusz Gamrot and Quillan Salkilld will headline UFC Fight Night 284 — also branded UFC Vegas 120 — at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas on August 8, the promotion announced Thursday. The 155-pound matchup pits one of the division’s most experienced gatekeepers against an unbeaten Australian finisher who has torn through the lightweight ranks in 2025.

Gamrot, 26-4 with one no-contest, has been a fixture of the lightweight top-15 for several years but has struggled to string together consistent results. The Polish veteran closed a three-fight win streak with a decision over Rafael dos Anjos before dropping a split verdict to Dan Hooker. He rebounded against Ludovit Klein, then suffered the first stoppage loss of his career against former champion Charles Oliveira. Most recently, Gamrot returned to winning ways in April, submitting Esteban Ribovics with an arm-triangle choke. He has earned five post-fight performance bonuses across his UFC tenure.

Salkilld arrives on an entirely different trajectory. The 26-year-old has never lost as a professional, running his record to 12-0 with nine stoppages since turning pro in 2021. His 2025 campaign alone has been remarkable: a neck crank finish of Jamie Mullarkey was followed by a three-and-a-half-minute demolition of Beneil Dariush, a performance that announced him as a genuine contender. All four of his UFC victories have come inside the distance, each earning a bonus.

The contrast in styles and momentum gives the main event genuine intrigue. Gamrot brings technical wrestling and submission grappling honed over more than a decade of high-level competition; Salkilld brings relentless finishing instincts and the confidence of a fighter who has yet to hear a final bell go against him.

The UFC also announced several undercard bouts for the card. Steven Asplund meets Guilherme Pat at heavyweight, Amanda Lemos faces Alexia Thainara at women’s strawweight, and Jose Luiz takes on Louie Sutherland in another heavyweight contest. Diyar Nurgozhay vs. Bruno Lopes is set for light heavyweight, Juliana Miller faces Ravena Oliveira at women’s flyweight, and Donte Johnson meets Eric McConico at middleweight.
