Mbappé Silences Critics with Masterclass Clásico Display and 100th Real Madrid Goal
Kylian Mbappé scored a decisive brace in Real Madrid's 2-1 victory over Barcelona at Camp Nou on Sunday, reaching 100 goals in 116 appearances for the club and bringing Los Blancos to within three points of the top of La Liga.
Kylian Mbappé delivered one of his finest performances in a Real Madrid shirt on Sunday, scoring a brace at Camp Nou to sink FC Barcelona 2-1 and bring Los Blancos to within three points of the summit of La Liga. The display comes at a moment when doubts have been mounting around the French striker, just days before the Ballon d’Or ceremony.
In a match Barcelona appeared keen to control tactically, Mbappé punished the Catalan defence twice with remarkable composure. He first capitalised on a blocked clearance to open the scoring with a poacher’s finish, before converting a precise pass from Eduardo Camavinga to seal the result.
These two goals allow him to reach the symbolic milestone of 100 goals for Real Madrid in just 116 appearances — a feat matched only by Cristiano Ronaldo in the Spanish capital. Mbappé’s record against Barcelona has now reached impressive proportions: 14 goals in 10 meetings, including 11 scored at Camp Nou.
When asked after the match, the Madrid number 10 brushed aside his personal statistics with studied humility. “I’m very happy. I love scoring goals and helping the team that way, but it’s just a detail. The most important thing is the victory, and that will give us a lot of confidence as a group.”
Often criticised for alleged individualism in big matches, Mbappé emphasised the collective dimension. “The main character of the match is the team. If we want to succeed, we have to do it together. The quality is there, anyone who says otherwise would be a liar, but we must act as a team.”
On his attacking form heading into the autumn fixtures, the Bondy native concluded with quiet assurance: “As for goals… I think I’m going to score a lot.” The competition has been warned.
