Kylian Mbappe leads the World Cup 2026 Golden Boot standings on eight goals after the quarter-finals, edging Lionel Messi on assists as the pair sit level at the top of the charts. Erling Haaland is one behind on seven, with Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham sharing fourth place on six goals each.

Mbappe has been the tournament’s most consistent scorer. He opened his account with a brace against Senegal, added another against Iraq, then struck twice more against Sweden in the round of 32. A penalty against Paraguay in the last 16 was followed by a goal against Morocco in the quarter-finals — though he did miss a spot-kick in that game — leaving him with eight goals and three assists.

Messi has matched that goal tally through a combination of brilliance and resilience. A hat-trick against Algeria set the tone, and a double against Austria — which included a response to a penalty miss and broke the all-time World Cup scoring record — underlined his quality. Further goals off the bench against Jordan, and strikes in both knockout wins over Cape Verde and Egypt, bring his total to eight, though he trails Mbappe on assists with just one.

Haaland reached seven goals after netting twice against Brazil in the round of 16, extending his run of scoring in consecutive international matches to 14 games. Kane kept England’s tournament alive with a double against DR Congo and added a goal against Mexico to reach six, while Bellingham — who also contributed against Mexico — scored twice against Norway in the quarter-finals to climb to six goals and firmly enter the Golden Boot conversation.

Should players finish level on goals, assists are the first tiebreaker, followed by minutes played and goals-per-minute ratio. That rule currently separates Mbappe from Messi at the summit, and Kane from Bellingham in fourth.
