Mason Mount’s representatives have had no contact with AC Milan, despite Italian reports claiming the Manchester United midfielder had been put forward to the Serie A club this summer. Those close to the 27-year-old were caught off guard by the claims, and he is widely expected to stay in Manchester.

The speculation was partly fuelled by Milan’s appointment of Ruben Amorim as their new head coach, replacing Max Allegri. Amorim, who managed Mount at Old Trafford, was a vocal admirer of the midfielder during his tenure at United, speaking publicly about his qualities before he had even taken charge at the club.

Mount is currently training in Spain with a personal coach as he prepares for United’s pre-season return to Carrington. By all accounts, he is focused on making an impact in the 2026/27 campaign, in which United are set to compete in the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, and Carabao Cup.

The Portsmouth-born midfielder endured a frustrating start to last season, picking up a minor injury in training after Michael Carrick’s second match in charge against Arsenal in January, which kept him sidelined until mid-March. He had, however, enjoyed his most consistent run of form in a United shirt in the first half of the season under Amorim, scoring against Sunderland, Crystal Palace, and Wolves.

After Mount’s goal at Molineux, Amorim praised his ability to “defend and attack” and credited him with establishing himself as a dressing room leader through his performances. Carrick has since echoed that sentiment. “I like Mason a lot, and he’s an important player for this team and this club,” the interim head coach said in January.

Mount made his first start under Carrick against Sunderland in May before featuring again on the final day of the season against Brighton. He is regarded as a key senior figure as United look to rebuild following a turbulent few years since his £55 million arrival from Chelsea.
