Ferran Torres leaves Spain squad with injury, returns to PSG
Suffering from a left ankle problem, Ferran Torres was released by Spain ahead of the match against the Czech Republic. PSG's leading scorer in Ligue 1 is returning to Paris to recover from his injury.
Ferran Torres will not finish the international break with Spain. The Paris Saint-Germain forward was released by La Roja on Friday due to discomfort in his left ankle, officially confirmed by the Spanish federation.
The injury had been present for several days, but initially did not prevent Torres from training or playing. Given the persistence of symptoms, the Spanish and Paris medical staffs — “in constant contact since the start of the camp” according to the statement — jointly decided to withdraw him from the squad to prioritize his recovery.
Luis de la Fuente addressed his absence by calling up Carlos Espi, who usually plays with the Spanish U21s. The replacement will be available for the final two matches of this international window: hosting the Czech Republic in Oviedo on Saturday, then the trip to Split on October 6 against Luka Modric’s Croatia. Leading Group 3 of the Nations League with a three-point advantage over England and Croatia, Spain approaches the end of this window in a strong position.
For PSG, Torres’s early return is relatively good news: currently the club’s leading scorer in Ligue 1 this season, the Spaniard will now focus on his rehabilitation, with the resumption of the league on October 10 in sight.
