Marseille could pocket €7.5m from Ounahi sale to Ajax
Holding 30% of the rights on a future sale of Azzedine Ounahi, Olympique de Marseille could receive up to €7.5 million if Ajax Amsterdam secures the services of the Moroccan midfielder from Girona.
Olympique de Marseille could receive up to €7.5 million from the transfer of Azzedine Ounahi without spending a single euro. The Phocaean club holds 30% of the rights on a future sale of the Moroccan international midfielder, according to information from Onze Mondial.
Ounahi left Marseille last summer to join Girona for €6 million. Since then, the 26-year-old has established himself as one of the revelations of the World Cup with Morocco, which is why he is now being courted by Ajax Amsterdam. According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the midfielder is the Dutch club’s summer priority.
Ounahi has a release clause estimated at €25 million. Ajax would be attempting to negotiate this amount downwards with Girona, and an agreement could be reached in the coming days. If the transaction is concluded at the level of the clause, Marseille would receive €7.5 million as its share of the resale.
This cash injection would come at just the right time for the Marseille club. Sanctioned by the DNCG after failing to qualify for the Ligue des Champions last season, Olympique de Marseille is forced to sell players this summer to clean up its finances. An indirect sale of Ounahi would significantly ease the pressure on president Stéphane Richard, without requiring any negotiation from the club.
