Manchester United close in on three signings as Darlow, Santos and Ederson deals near completion
Manchester United are on the verge of completing three signings in quick succession. Goalkeeper Karl Darlow and midfielder Andrey Santos are both expected to finalise deals imminently, while Ederson is undergoing a detailed medical after arriving in Manchester from Atalanta.
Manchester United are poised to complete three separate signings in the coming days, with goalkeeper Karl Darlow, midfielder Andrey Santos, and Atalanta’s Ederson all at advanced stages of their respective moves to Old Trafford.
Darlow, 35, will arrive on a free transfer after his contract at Leeds United expired last month. The former Newcastle goalkeeper made 22 Premier League starts for Leeds last season and was offered a new deal at Elland Road, but has instead opted to join United as back-up to Senne Lammens. His arrival comes as United clear out their goalkeeping ranks: Andre Onana has already returned to Trabzonspor on loan, Altay Bayindir is expected to complete a permanent move back to Turkey, and 22-year-old Radek Vitek is set to depart following an impressive loan spell at Bristol City.
Santos, 22, is set to join on a five-year deal after United agreed a £50 million fee with Chelsea earlier this week. The Brazilian midfielder has been undergoing medical tests and his move is expected to be confirmed imminently.
The third deal centres on Ederson, also 22, for whom United have agreed a £35 million fee with Atalanta, plus a further £3.8 million in add-ons, with personal terms settled on a four-year contract with a one-year option. Some initial medical tests were carried out during the World Cup, but following Brazil’s elimination from the tournament, Ederson has travelled to Manchester to complete the process. United opted to conduct a more detailed assessment, prompting reports that the deal could collapse, though the club insists it remains on track.
