Manchester United abandon £38m Ederson transfer after knee injury concern emerges
Manchester United have walked away from a £38million deal to sign Atalanta midfielder Ederson, more than a month after agreeing personal terms, with an underlying knee injury understood to have ended the move.
Manchester United have pulled out of a £38million transfer for Atalanta midfielder Ederson, abandoning a deal that had been agreed in principle for over a month, with a knee injury concern understood to be the decisive factor.
United had struck an agreement worth up to £38million with the Italian club in early June and had reached personal terms with the 27-year-old Brazilian, who had been keen to move to Old Trafford. However, multiple reports now confirm the transfer is dead, with an underlying knee condition having scuppered the deal at a late stage.
The collapse marks a significant shift in United’s summer planning, coming after weeks of apparent progress on a signing that had been considered close to completion. Ederson had emerged as a priority midfield target for the club under Ruben Amorim.
The news arrives as United close in on an alternative midfield addition, with a £48million deal for Chelsea’s Andrey Santos reported to be in its final stages.
